Holy Roman Empire

The Holy Roman Empire began in 962. Charlemagne wasn't an emperor of this empire, but his beliefs in God and the pope was part of the empire's foundation. After he died the Roman Empire was separated into two parts. They were the kingdom of the Franks, or French, and the kingdom of Germany, or the Holy Roman Empire. Otto I was the first emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. Even though it lasted for centuries, it was never as powerful as France. This empire ended in 1806 during the Napoleonic War during the rule of Francis II. During the is war the Holy Roman Empire is nowhere near as strong as it was a millennium ago. Knowing that there was no hope left for the kingdom, Francis abolished the empire.
